What is the TV Ministry?

The TV Ministry is the only true religion of the world. People love television, everyone loves television! It’s a great mediator, a common bond, and a superior babysitter. Television is the center of our homes. It is the box we adore and stare into for countless hours.

We give it all of our attention. “Shhh... I’m watching something.” How many times have you heard this or said it? The difference between us and the average TV viewer is an additional level of commitment. We know TV, and we love it! We worship every day and every night, sometimes even late night, with the practice of Ritual Veiwing, it is our deep and meaningful worship. It is who we are. Read on to answer more of your TV Minstry questions, we like to believe our religion is simple enough for everyone to enjoy, but we always wecome questions and inquiries.

We don’t bother with the false religions of the world, but we do welcome members of all other religions, because TV is for everyone, it brings the world together, and we do not alienate anyone. While Jesus, Allah, Ra, and Jah keep most of the world at one another’s throats, TV unites everyone onto a level playing field and eliminates our differences.

Is it a cult? What kind of people worship TV?

All great religions start in a fashion that could be considered cultish -The early Christians, definitely the followers of Abraham, Martin Luther, and those of Jewish faith and ancestry, too. It starts with an idea, or an epiphany. Then comes the creation of matter with which to define that idea. This matter is then spread by word of mouth, through legend, and in printed material to all who will listen. Some of those who hear will disagree, others will agree. Those who agree form a loose network for the execution and study of that idea. If it continues to flourish, people will become devoted to the idea, they will live and die for it, they will use it’s applications to advance and thrive, then no unjust persecution can destroy it.

Our devotees come from every walk of life. Some love comedies or drama, sports or documentaries. They are a united group of individuals who know that every answer we seek on Earth can be found via television. We enjoy a chat at the watercooler, in line at the post office, or on the bus with otherwise strangers about our bond of television. “I can’t wait to get home and watch Spin City”, or “Hey, one hour until Andy Richter’s new show is on”. It sure beats talking about the weather.

Who founded the TV Ministry? When?

The TV Ministry was born in the minds of 2 sisters while growing up in Calumet City, Illinois, many years ago. Now known as Pope April and General Amy, they officially founded the TV Ministry in 1996, due to growing interest and urging from other devotees. Others at the head of the movement are their mum, Mother Mary Joan, Amy’s husband the Pastor of Disaster, and the Pope’s two young daughters, Julie Anne and Wendy are already in training to carry on the family torch. Pope April is our reclusive Spiritual Leader and figurehead, whileGeneral Amy is on the militaristic side of offense, defense, information, and propaganda.

Why the anti-news stance?

It’s like the Pope says, "We do not want so much reality on our TVs". As illustrated on the News Watch channel, the news is evil, the news is lies. It's propaganda. It’s mind control, manipulated by the government for whatever agendas are on at the time. It is whatever unreality the government and the media are using for profit and control on any given day. We only want to know the actors when they are in character - what they do in their private life is of no interest to us.

Why start a religion around television?

Television brings everything to life, colors, sounds, so many stories to see. It’s the center of every home, and of nearly every life. It is the common denominator of all people, and luckily through research and inspiration it came to Pope April that this was the second coming, this was the new god, this was the great peacemaker of the world! And, we had to tell the world.

Who Is Farnsworth?

Philo Taylor Farnsworth (1906-1971) invented the current system of television transmission and reception in 1928, at his 202 Green Street laboratory in San Francisco, and it can be said it was one of the great scientific inventions of the 20th century.

What is Ritual Viewing?

Ritual Viewing is our practice of worship. It consists of deep concentration while watching TV - It looks a bit like zoning out, but goes much, much deeper. It can be done alone or in any sized group. Most homes,bars, hotels,and restaurants can be used for this purpose. It can be done during any show, but your personal favorites are recommeded for the best results.

How come I've just now heard of the TVM?

Apparently, you've had your head under a rock. Actually, the TV Ministry is usually busy with Ritual Viewing. Since our inception in 1996, we've managed to get some press - mostly overseas, collaberated on a video, appeared at several film fests, and we've done a number of events. not to mention we were ripped off in an ad campaign by ABC TV,they used our beleifs, even our colors, and then put on the most awful TV ever! What is a Televisionist?

A member in the TV Ministry, or more generally, one who lives by the words “TV is God!” By joining the TV Ministry one officially aligns themselves with the Televisionist movement, becoming part of a strong network of members. Nearly everyone on Earth is already a member, why not make it official?
